PERISTYLE

PERISTYLE/ˈpɛrɪstaɪl/noun

(Latin peristylum, from Greek peristulon, from peri “around” and stulos “column”)

1.

A covered gallery lined with columns, surrounding the courtyard or garden of a Roman house. Beyond the atrium, which was open to visitors, the peristyle was the private heart of the home: a place to stroll, to read and to receive close friends. A fountain murmured at the centre of the peristyle.

2.

PERISTYLE: a place of one’s own where what you read and what you keep come together. The feeds you follow, the links you set aside, the pages you archive, gathered around the same garden, at home, sheltered from the street.
